Eyes: Reduced Specular Counts

Testimonial/ Experience Sharing at Netra Jyoti Center
by B C Mittal
It was in the year 1994 that due to an accident; I lost partial vision in my right eye. The pupil is permanently dilated (traumatic dilation) and later the eye lens was required to be changed due to traumatic cataract. However, since the left eye was good, I had been leading almost normal life. But since about one year ago I started feeling uneasiness in the left eye and also deterioration of vision. The doctors could not diagnose any problem and minor changes in my spectacle lenses were recommended. However the problem was not getting solved and the vision in the left eye got hazier. About a couple months back the haziness increased and every day was worse than the previous day. I went to the doctor in the Dr R P Center in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and there I was diagnosed that my specular counts had fallen very low (1337 in the left eye and 1816 in the right eye). I was also told by the doctorsthat once these counts fall down, they do not get replenished with the fresh ones and also that the loss is a continuous process which is around 6% per annum. I was advised to undergo both cornea and lens replacement in the left eye for which I was advised to get my name registered in the eye bank for optical keratoplasty.
In the meanwhile, through my wife I learnt that there is a Netra jyoti center under the Sri Sri Ayurveda Panchkarma center under the Art Of Living Ashram in Bangalore. She also gave me the name of Dr Padmalochan and Dr Patanjali who are giving Ayurvedic treatments for various diseases and Dr Padmalochan is specially taking care of eye-related problems. I spoke with him (on the 8th Aug 2010) and told him about my problem. He only could say that I should reach there at the earliest. I, along with my wife reached there on the 10th Aug and my treatment started from the next day. With a lot of skepticism in my mind I agreed for the treatment as Dr Padmalochan said that I am the first person whom he would be treating for the loss of Specular Counts, but the confidence in his voice made me to agree to undergo the treatment. The treatment included almost one and half hours of eye exercises followed by morning and evening sessions of herbal applications including fresh cow milk and cow ghee mixed with fresh herbs grown in the ashram garden, all conducted under his direct supervision.
The first exercise is “sunning”, where after putting some eye drops, the patient sits on a stool facing the Sun with eyes closed and then he rocks from left to right from the waist upwards. That is the time I realized that my left eye is full of thousands of black spots (floaters) and also there was a thick yellowish jelly like substance with a shape of an human embryo (a sort of head with two wings like arms and a long tail), which was moving from left to right during the rocking movement. I had never noticed this formation in my left eye previous to that day and I could understand why I was seeing hazy from the left eye.
During the first couple of days, I got scared of the treatments as at first, after the sessions, the vision from both the eyes seemed to get hazier. As per the doctor this was normal and I also discussed with fellow patients who shared the same experience. Within a couple of days I could feel that the jelly like substance was thinning out but it was too early for any judgments. I continued the treatment for 14 days and some changes were also made to the treatments in between and after about a week I felt that
the size of jelly type figure had reduced and also the yellowness of the color had become clearer (transparent). Finally after I completed the whole treatment, my vision in the left eye had become much better and the black spots (floaters) had also reduced to a negligible amount. Since the Netra Jyoti center has no equipment to measure the specular counts, keeping my figures crossed, I went to the Dr RP Center, AIIMS, and told the story of my Ayurvedic treatment to the doctor who had previously seen my case and I could see disbelief in his eyes when the repeat specular counts had shown the figures 2465 in my left eye and 2494 in my right eye. He took me to a senior doctor and once again I was closely examined and finally I was told that my condition could have been caused due to some infection which now got cured.
Since my return, there has been a gradual improvement in my vision but the questions which my mind is regularly toying with are:
 Just in case I had not come to know about the Ayurvedic Treatment center in Bangalore.
 Just in case I had not gone there for the treatment.
 Just in case the surgery was performed without actually diagnosing the real problem. As per the doctors, once the counts fall below 700 or so…………., one is not able to do anything.
 Why the doctors at AIIMS could not diagnose the loss of counts as being due to some infection and treat me for that instead of advising surgery.
Firstly, thanks to my wife who guided me to the Netra Jyoti Center in Bangalore and secondly, thanks to Dr Padmalochan, who not only showed confidence in his treatment which has shown almost 100% results but took extra care to treat me. According to Dr Pamalochan, in Ayurveda it is believed that a human body is capable of replenishing anything (contrary to the statement made by the doctor at AIIMS) and my experience supports the Ayurvedic theory. I must also acknowledge the wonderful staff of the center, who perform their duties with utmost care, love and affection. To name a few, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Ms. Pammi, Mr. Arvind and Mr. Dushyant. I and have been advised by Dr Padmalochan to revisit the center for a follow-up treatment within six months.
I must add that along with me there were many patients starting from the age of 5 years upwards who had come there for vision correction and other eye related problems and almost everyone has gone back with improvements.
Finally, I must not forget to thank respected Sri Sri Ravishankarj (Guruji), under whose blessings the center is being run and patients from all over the world are coming and getting the benefit.

Computer eye strain cured!

It has been an amazing experience at Sri Sri Netra Jyoti. I was suffering from eye strain due to long term use of the computer. Eight days of Ayurvedic treatment and exercises cured my eyes. At the same time I learnt how to keep my eyes healthy in the future also. Many thanks to Dr Padmalochan and his team of therapists here.

Shobhana Kalyan .
My vision, an absolutely low -9.5 right eye and -6.5 left eye. From the very first day I could feel my eyes relaxing. I found my eyes felt lighter on my face! My first netra tarpan experience was close to my first sudarshan kriya experience. I felt stress released from my stomach and other parts of my body while relaxing!
On my last day I am confident of moving about without spectacles. I want people to consider eye exercise and netra tarpan as FIRST OPTION. Not spectacles, contact lense or Lasik.
Every single person on this planet should experience, in case of imperfect vision, eye exercise. Knowledge on proper eye care should be shared with all.
With little children wearing glasses these days, we need all SSRVMs to undergo this treatment.
All AOL members, teachers, volunteers, staff must be aware of this wonderful programme.
People who visit ashram for courses or otherwise should be told about this programme.
Thanks a lot to Dr. Padmalochan for giving me the confidence of possibility of good vision in future.
